2010 PROGRAM INFORMATION

HortEast provides delegates with access to experts and events all geared towards enriching your industry knowledge and business skills. The 2010 program will appeal to both company owners and their staff, and to all members of the environmental horticulture industry.

All events will take place at the Cunard Centre or our main hotel, the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel, unless noted otherwise. Locations and rooms are noted beside each event.

Monday November 22nd, 2010

9:00am – 3:30pm Industry Tour (Meet at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel)
Travel by motorcoach to some of Nova Scotia’s finest sites including the new Seaport Farmers Market, NSCC Green Roof and Living Walls, the historical Halifax Seed Company, Pier 21 (Canada’s Immigration Museum), and lunch and a tour at Keith’s Brewery - theres something for everyone on this years tour! 8:00am – 11:00am ISA Exam (Westin Nova Scotian Hotel - Fundy Room)
The Atlantic Chapter of the International Society of Arborists will be offering the opportunity to write the ISA Exam on Monday morning. Visit www.isaatlantic.org for more information.

10:30am – 12:00pm IPM Exam (Westin Nova Scotian Hotel - Commonwealth B)
The IPM Accreditation Program (IPMAP) recognizes companies, park systems, golf clubs and their superintendents, and other interested institutions who demonstrate their knowledge of and commitment to the principles of IPM through a process of certification, audit, and professional development. Integrated Pest Management or IPM is a decision making process that uses all necessary techniques to suppress pests effectively, economically and in an environmentally sound manner. 11:00am – 1:00pm CLD Portfolio Workshop  (Westin Nova Scotian Hotel - Fundy Room)

1:00pm-7:00pm - Landscape Construction Workshop – led by Robert Bowers (ICPI) (Westin Nova Scotian Hotel - Atlantic Ballroom)
This 6 hour workshop will cover the Construction of Permeable Pavements, How to Sell and Market Concrete Pavers, Estimating Labor and Materials for Segmental Concrete Pavements, Maintenance of Management of Interlocking Concrete Pavements, and will provide ample opportunity for question and answers. 1:00pm-7:00pm - Landscape Maintenance Workshop – led by Eric Lyons (U. of Guelph) and Jeff McMann (City of Markham) (Westin Nova Scotian Hotel - Commonwealth B)
This 6 hour workshop will cover Pesticide free turfgrass management topics led by Eric Lyons, followed by a presentation on "Improved Grounds Maintenance" which will cover the theory and techniques needed to attain an eye-catching landscape led by Jeff McMann. HortEast will be offering a free Kitchen Party to all delegates, exhibitors, and sponsors of HortEast. All attendee's will receive a free Molson drink and appetizers. This is always a fun night to let loose and mingle with the HortEast crowd!
